RollerBall (WIP)

After learning the basics of how to create in Unreal Engine 5, I moved onto a more complex project. Following another Udemy course, I made a game where players control a rolling ball and followed the course to make the first few levels.

After that, I decided to take the gameplay and make new levels for it, as well as tweak existing levels to make them more challenging.

This game is still a work in process, but you can find documentation and details here.

Mountaineering Design Doc (WIP)

For practice in design documentation, I started drafting up a design doc for a puzzle-exploration game set in a mountain range called Mountaineering. It's been an interesting challenge to consider the logistics of this hypothetical game and work out how I would pitch the game based on its unique selling points.

We've Been Trying to Contact You

This short game was made for AdvXJam 2021 which ran from the 12th to the 27th of November. I worked on it independently in Game Maker Studio 2 under the jam’s theme: “Contact”.

My main goal for this jam was to figure out an engine I was largely unfamiliar and create a simple, story-based game within two weeks. As a result, I set the game within a single location to simplify the process of creating levels and focus more on creating a straightforward story with interactable elements.

Narrative Test

For my first time using Twine, I decided to make a small adventure structured around three buildings in a field, each with a different gimmick that encouraged me to experiment with Twine’s layout and coding features to make these buildings play out the way I planned.

Dialogue Practice

I wanted some practice with a branching dialogue interaction between two characters, and so came up with the idea of a peaceful exchange that happens after a disastrous one that both characters escaped.

This approach allowed these characters some common ground to start a conversation on while still being strangers, and let me reveal details of this mysterious chaotic event piece-by-piece in different branches depending on how the player decides to interact with the other character.

Unreal Engine 5 Test

To get started with learning Unreal Engine 5, I used this Udemy course to learn the basics of the engine and get to grips with blueprinting. As part of the course, I made this short platformer that requires you to collect 3 orbs and make it to the exit door while avoiding obstacles.
