Universal, or 'U' for short, is the lowest of the BBFC ratings, and, as the name suggest, is suibtable for everyone. Any violence shown will be mild, and any violence will be quickly resolved and followed up by a cheery scene, the same goes for scary scenes, with comical or musical interludes to break it up. The only bad language will be extremely mild and used very infrequently, and while there may be hugging and kissing, there will be no direct reference to sexual behaviour, language and innuendo. U works will have no drug references, unless the purpose of the film is to actively oppose drug use. A U film may include a range of different themes, but they all must end on a happy or positive note.
